Curriculum

Learn By Doing

The curriculum at St. Martin’s Preschool is a developmentally appropriate program that stimulates and reinforces all learning.

Educational activities and tasks are designed to be age-appropriate and to enhance learning
on all levels.

Our Programs

Rhythm, Routine and Responsibility

Our toddler program works with each child to begin building learning confidence. Using a consistent routine backed by an appropriate learning rhythm helps with separation as well as trust. Once we establish trust, the teachers focus on individual responsibility.

Curiosity, Creativity and Community

Our three year-old program builds on the toddler years by giving each child more individual responsibility. Focusing on each child’s enhanced curiosity about their learning environment,  the teachers use goals and objectives to bring the child’s direction from themselves into the community around them with play, life skills, and social awareness.

Projects Preparing for Pre-K

Our four year-old program implements a project and play-based approach, building further learning confidence. The teachers use personal responsibility to scaffold learning into an introduction to academic awareness.

Literacy and Learning

Our pre-kindergarten program uses the foundations built over the last four years to bring each child into the world of reading. The teachers base their program on a literacy curriculum that includes journaling, auditory skills, and handwriting. We also focus on art, science, and music to bring our children a holistic learning experience that culminates their time at SMEP.  We have our own library to expand on curriculum for all ages, with opportunities for families to check out books at any time.

Play-Based Learning

All classes implement “center-based learning.” This practice allows children to interact with their teachers and peers while learning basic concepts of literacy, math, science and art.

Learning that takes place through social interaction allows children the opportunity to strengthen their social relationships and sharing with others.

Additionally, children attend special ancillary classes each day.
